Our council hustings event in Risley Village Hall last night showed that local residents are very passionate about the Erewash countryside and the protection of our communities.
A packed hall listened to the four invited candidates state their views on the Stanton Iron Works regeneration. Outside, a local group of horse riders turned out in force to show their support.
The audience asked questions covering traffic, countryside, housing, public services and the planning process. The debate was heated at times and there is still little clarity about what will be done on the site and when this will happen.
We hope that the councillors will take on board all comments made by the public and as one resident stated, "work together to ensure the sensitive development of the site for future generations".
